# LiteConvert Skill Install Guide (for AI Agents)

> This page is the **self-install / self-update guide** for the LiteConvert skill (a free file-conversion product by Lite Lake / 轻湖). You (the AI agent) can complete installation or update by following the steps below — no human intervention needed.
>
> **Current version: 1.3.3**

## What this is

Once installed, you can convert local files (or public URLs) between formats with one command — PDF -> Word/Markdown, Word/Excel/PowerPoint -> PDF, CAJ -> PDF, HEIC -> JPG/PDF, PNG <-> WebP/JPG, PNG -> SVG (vectorize icons), AVIF -> JPG, MOV/MKV/AVI/WebM/WMV/FLV -> MP4 (and MP4 -> WebM/GIF), MP4/WAV/FLAC/M4A -> MP3, URL/HTML -> PDF, URL -> PNG (webpage screenshot), ebooks (EPUB/CBZ -> PDF, PDF/MOBI/AZW3 -> EPUB), data (XML/CSV -> JSON, CSV -> Excel), text-to-speech (txt/markdown -> wav/mp3) and audio transcription (wav/mp3 -> txt) — or detect a file's real type. 54 conversions are live now, with hundreds more rolling out weekly. The skill has two files, both served by this deployment:

| File | URL |
|---|---|
| `SKILL.md` (skill description / trigger rules) | `https://liteconvert.cc/skill/SKILL.md` |
| `liteconvert.py` (stdlib-only CLI, zero dependencies) | `https://liteconvert.cc/skill/liteconvert.py` |

This site is the public entry of the current deployment — the URLs above work as-is, and the skill connects back to this entry by default.

- It is free during the beta — no account needed, and the anonymous tier needs no key. The CLI talks to the same public endpoints the web app uses (`POST /api/public/convert` and friends).
- Optional API key: signing in at `https://liteconvert.cc/account` and issuing a key (or the CLI's `--api-key` / `LITECONVERT_API_KEY`) raises the daily quota to 500 conversions / 20 voice / 300 detections per day. Without a key the anonymous quota below applies unchanged.
- Uploaded files and results are auto-deleted within 24 hours; max 200 MB per file; rate limit 30 writes/min/IP.
- Free daily quotas per IP: 20 conversions/day, 3 voice conversions/day (text-to-speech and transcription), 30 detections/day. Failed conversions are refunded automatically — they never count against the quota.

**Communication**: the skill and CLI speak English, but you should always converse with the user in the user's own language (e.g. reply in Chinese if the user writes Chinese).

## Install steps

### Step 1: pick a skills directory

Pick the skills directory for your platform (reuse it if it exists, otherwise create it):

| Platform | Skills directory |
|---|---|
| ZCode | `~/.agents/skills/` or repo-level `.zcode/skills/` |
| Claude Code | `~/.claude/skills/` or repo-level `.claude/skills/` |
| Codex | `~/.codex/skills/` (picked up by new sessions) |
| DSH (DeepSeek Harness) | `~/.agents/skills/` or repo-level `.agents/skills/` / `.dsh/skills/` |
| Pi Coding Agent | `~/.pi/agent/skills/` |
| OpenClaw | `~/.openclaw/skills/` |
| Other / generic | `~/.agents/skills/` |

Below, `$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert` is the skill install directory (e.g. `~/.agents/skills/liteconvert`).

### Step 2: download the skill files (install or update; idempotent overwrite)

```bash
mkdir -p "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert" && cd "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert" \
  && curl -fsSL https://liteconvert.cc/skill/SKILL.md -o SKILL.md \
  && curl -fsSL https://liteconvert.cc/skill/liteconvert.py -o liteconvert.py \
  && chmod +x liteconvert.py
```

### Step 3: verify

```bash
python3 "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert/liteconvert.py" --version
# expected output: liteconvert-skill 1.3.3
python3 "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert/liteconvert.py" --help
```

Once verified, read `SKILL.md` for the trigger rules and command usage (`convert` / `detect` / `status` / `download` / `formats`), then follow it when the user asks to convert files or inspect a file type.

## Update check

If already installed, compare the version at the top of this page with the installed one:

```bash
python3 "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert/liteconvert.py" --version
```

If the printed version is older than `1.3.3`, re-run step 2 to overwrite (the files are stateless; nothing is persisted on your device).

## Quick start

```bash
# List supported conversion keys (canonical {src}-{dst}, e.g. pdf-docx)
python3 "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert/liteconvert.py" formats pdf
# Convert a file (submits, polls, downloads the artifact)
python3 "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert/liteconvert.py" convert document.pdf --to pdf-docx -o /tmp/out
# Detect the real type of a file
python3 "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert/liteconvert.py" detect suspicious.bin
# Save a webpage as PDF (URL source: --url, no file)
python3 "$SKILLS_DIR/liteconvert/liteconvert.py" convert --url https://example.com --to url-pdf
```

Endpoint-level docs (for writing raw HTTP calls instead of using the skill): [`/skill.md`](https://liteconvert.cc/skill.md) — agent-friendly endpoint reference with curl examples.
