03 · Background

Written to be read, now also heard

Markdown exists because writers wanted structure without wrestling a word processor: headings as hashes, emphasis as asterisks, lists as dashes. The format assumes a reader who sees the rendered result. But more and more of the day belongs to ears rather than eyes — commutes, kitchens, gym floors — and a folder of notes does not care about your headphones. Converting Markdown to WAV gives your documents a second audience: you, listening.

The match is natural. Markdown is plain text under the hood, so there is nothing to render and no licence to worry about; the file uploads as-is. Where a plain TXT file is a flat stream of characters, a Markdown file carries its outline with it — and this page is built to use that outline. And because the format already encodes structure — what is a heading, what is a list item, what matters enough to be bold — the reading can follow the document's own shape instead of droning through symbols.

How the document is made speakable

Before any speech is synthesised, the file goes through a make-it-speakable preparation pass. The goal is simple: a human should never hear markup. What remains is prose, ordered the way the author ordered it.

Some things are deliberately left out. Code blocks and tables are not read aloud — nobody wants a voice reciting pipes and backticks, and a table read row by row is noise. Links contribute only their anchor text: the engine reads the release notes phrase, not the URL behind it. Image syntax is ignored entirely, alt text included. The preparation is mechanical and predictable: nothing is summarised, nothing is rewritten, and nothing outside the prose is spoken.

What stays is structure. Heading hierarchy, emphasis and list order are folded into the reading rhythm, so the recording breathes where the document breathes — a new section lands like a new section, a list is read as a list, in order. From there the Qwen3-TTS engine synthesises the speech into a WAV, a lossless container. Most conversions finish within a few minutes; long documents can take up to about 20 minutes. The WAV lands as a single file, ready for any player, with no further processing expected of you.

The voice and the input limit

The voice is AI-generated by the Qwen3-TTS engine, not a human recording, and it is presented that way honestly. The default voice is Vivian, reading in a fixed news-broadcast delivery — steady, clear, suited to material you want to absorb rather than admire. There are no voice or speed controls yet; every document gets the same composed read. Consistency is the feature: you always know exactly how the next document will sound.

Input is capped at 2000 characters, roughly nine minutes of finished audio. Longer files are refused with a clear message instead of being silently truncated. The natural fix for Markdown is to split by section: each part keeps its headings, each produces its own WAV, and the parts convert in order. Structure that reads well converts well — the split points are already written into the file.

Privacy and the one-file habit

The platform's privacy standard applies unchanged. The tool is free during beta with no account required; uploads travel over HTTPS, processing happens in memory, and both the Markdown original and the generated WAV are deleted automatically within 24 hours. No email field, no ad network, no exceptions to read.

One file in, one audio file out — deliberately narrow, deliberately dependable. If your notes live in Markdown — documentation drafts, a journal, card-box exports — this page turns the pile into something you can get through on a walk. And because the reading follows the document's own headings, a well-structured file simply sounds better than a flat one. Writing deserves a voice; now it has one.

04 · FAQ

Frequently asked

Is Markdown to WAV conversion really free?

Yes. During the beta everything on LiteConvert is free within daily per-IP quotas (failures refunded). No account required, no card, no watermark on the output.

Are my files safe?

Your files travel over HTTPS, are converted, and both the original and the result are automatically deleted within 24 hours. We never sell or share uploaded files, and there are no third-party ad networks on this site.

How long does a conversion take?

Most files finish in seconds. Larger files take longer, and you will see progress while the conversion runs.

Are code blocks and tables read aloud?

No. The speakable-text preparation skips code blocks and tables entirely; only the prose around them is synthesised.

What happens to links and images?

A link contributes only its anchor text — the URL is never read out. Image syntax is ignored completely, alt text included.

Is the heading structure preserved?

Yes. Heading levels, emphasis and list order are folded into the reading rhythm — structure survives as pacing rather than markup.

Is the voice a real human?

No. The speech is AI-generated by the Qwen3-TTS engine, not a human recording. The default voice is Vivian with a fixed news-broadcast delivery.

How long can my Markdown be?

Up to 2000 characters — roughly nine minutes of audio. Longer files are refused; split the document by section and convert the parts in order.

Why is the output a WAV file?

WAV is a lossless container, so the download keeps the full quality of the synthesis and stays editable — useful if you fold readings into a podcast or study stack later.
