What converts well
| Case | Verdict | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Standard HEIC file | Converts well | This conversion runs as a 2-step pipeline — quality stays high, timing is a little longer than a direct conversion. |
| iPhone / iPad HEIC photos | Converts well | Decoded at full resolution with the correct color profile, then embedded into the PDF. |
| Government / school portals that reject HEIC | Converts well | The output is a standard PDF 1.7 document that any upload form accepts. |
| Live Photos (motion component) | Partial | The still frame converts; motion cannot exist inside a PDF. |
| Corrupted images | Not supported | Refused with a clear error instead of a broken PDF. |
Two format problems, one conversion
This conversion solves two compatibility gaps in one step. The first is HEIC itself: iPhones shoot HEIC by default, and much of the non-Apple world — older Windows installs, web portals, government systems — cannot decode it. The second is the image-versus-document divide: many forms accept PDFs but reject bare images, regardless of format.
Converting HEIC to PDF fixes both at once. The photo is decoded from its HEVC container, its color profile is applied correctly, and the result is embedded as the single content of a standard PDF document. The upload form sees a PDF; your reader sees the photo at original resolution.
How the pipeline runs
The conversion is a composite: an image decode stage followed by a document rendering stage, chained on the conversion cluster. Decoding honors the image's embedded color profile — the difference between correct skin tones and a washed-out photo is precisely this step, and naive converters skip it. The renderer then sizes the page to the image's aspect ratio so nothing is stretched or cropped, and writes a standard PDF with the photo at full resolution.
Everything runs server-side, so a 50-megapixel ProRAW-derived HEIC converts on cluster hardware instead of draining your phone's battery in a web-based decoder. The result is typically a few megabytes and downloads in a blink.
A quick sanity note on expectations: a PDF made from a photo is a photo on a page. If you need the PDF's text to be selectable, the source has to contain text — photographing a paper form produces an image, not a text layer, and no converter can change that without OCR.
When to use JPG instead
If your target accepts plain images, converting HEIC to JPG is the lighter operation — smaller output, faster. Reach for PDF specifically when the receiving system demands a document: application portals, fax-style submission systems, print shops that want print-ready files, or email recipients who need to receive one tidy attachment. Both tools live on this site; pick by destination, not by habit.
Deletion and privacy
Personal photos deserve strict handling: HTTPS in transit, in-memory processing, and automatic deletion of both the HEIC and the PDF within 24 hours. No account required, no email capture, no third-party ad networks — the site earns money later from a paid tier, not from your photo library.

Frequently asked
Is HEIC to PDF conversion really free?
Yes. During the beta everything on LiteConvert is free within daily per-IP quotas (failures refunded). No account required, no card, no watermark on the output.
Are my files safe?
Your files travel over HTTPS, are converted, and both the original and the result are automatically deleted within 24 hours. We never sell or share uploaded files, and there are no third-party ad networks on this site.
How long does a conversion take?
Most files finish in seconds. Larger files take longer, and you will see progress while the conversion runs.
Will the PDF keep full photo resolution?
Yes — the image is embedded at its original pixel dimensions.
Why is the PDF bigger than my HEIC?
PDF embeds the image without HEVC's aggressive compression. Compatibility costs a few megabytes.
Can Live Photos convert?
The still frame converts; the motion part has no representation in PDF.
Is this better than converting to JPG first?
For upload forms that demand PDF documents, yes — this produces the document directly. For image-friendly targets, JPG is smaller.
